How to Perform Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs): Scapula

Your scapula, aka the shoulder blade, is an integral component of the shoulder complex. If you really think about it, it is the one thing that connects your arm to your body.

The ability of your scapula to move freely with adequate mobility is necessary for shoulder function, especially if you are an overhead athlete.

I know what you may be thinking… the scapula is a joint whose primary role is stability. This is true, but this does not mean mobility is not essential. Just like any other joint in the body it must be able to express its normal physiological movement.

Scapular CARs are a great way to start to self-assess how well your scapulas move while offering a quick and easy way to move them on a daily basis.
